Safety & Health Representatives – Refresher

Participants will have the opportunity to review their functions and role in the workplace as a health and safety representative. The program will provide insight into current issues and changes in the legislative environment, further skills in negotiation with employers and the opportunity to share best practice with others in the SHREPS community.

This Safety and Health Representatives Refresher course now refers to the new WA Work Health and Safety legislation that came into effect on 1^st January 2022. All ATI-Mirage WHS trainers are current, and are actively involved in the transition to the new WHS legislation.

Content

Day One

• Update on relevant changes to the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1984
• Update on relevant and new Codes of Practices and Guidance Notes
• Update on recent safety incidents and investigation outcomes
• Professional presentation techniques in toolbox meetings or similar

Day Two

• Induction meetings designed for impact
• Making meetings relevant after the event
• Defining best practice in your industry
• Leading best practice and creating a positive safety culture

Certifications

Unlike the full five day Safety and Health Representatives course, this two-day refresher course does not result in certification nor require any assessments.

At the end of this course participants should be able to:

• Understand and communicate recent changes to occupational safety and health law;
• Locate and access new codes of practice or guidance notes;
• Participate in difficult conversations with employers regarding safety and health in the workplace;
• Facilitate specialist meeting such as inductions;
• Promote best practice in safety and health; and
• Demonstrate the behaviours of a safety leader in the workplace.

Only people who have attended the five day Safety and Health Representatives Course accredited by WorkSafe W.A. are eligible to attend this Refresher course. Information on the 5 day course can be found here: Safety and Health Representatives Course.
